Description

I have long been fascinated with symmetries and tessellations of surfaces. During quarantine, Escher’s lizard, from his lithograph “Reptiles,” has become a symbol for me as a protagonist forced from a 3D world into the 2D world of online meetings and virtual cocktail hours. This lizard-as-hero is embedded, as a gear in a machine, in the pixelated distractions of our digital world, yearning to break free. This lunette is to be hung over a doorway to symbolize that the door is a gateway to a better world.
